An enjoyable night was had by all on October 25th when St Helens Singers performed in concert at the Baptist Church in St Helens Town Centre. This concert was given to help raise church funds, and as it is our rehearsal venue, it was also our way of saying ‘Thank you’ to the minister and congregation for their hospitality.

Our audience included the Mayor and Mayoress of St Helens (Councillor Pat Ireland and Lynn Glover) as well as Baptist Church members, family and friends.

We were very pleased to welcome back one of our former members, Clare, who is an accomplished flautist and entertained us all with her performances of  ’Vocalise’ by Rachmaninoff and ‘Mediation’ from ‘Thais’ by Massenet.

Our programme included Vivaldi’s ‘Gloria’, ‘The Prayer’, some Frank Sinatra, extracts from ‘Kings of Swing’, plus some Abba music, amongst others. We were also treated to duets from Carole and Wilf (‘Whispering Hope’ and ‘Beautiful Isle of Somewhere’), and a song from Vincent (‘Bold Sir John’) with the help of the male chorus. There really was something for everyone.

We are now busy rehearsing for our next concert at St Julie’s Parish Hall in Eccleston on Saturday 17th November. This is jointly organised with St Julie’s S.V.P. Tickets are £6.00 (£1.00 for U-16) and are available from any member of the Singers or from St Julie’s S.V.P. If you missed the Baptist Church concert please come along on the 17th – you will have a great night out!

We will also be holding a Carol Service at St Thomas of Canterbury Church, Windleshaw, on Sunday 16th December, at 3 p.m. Children from St Thomas’ primary school will be taking part. No tickets needed - all are welcome!
